Victor Osinloye led the Spartans on Friday night at the Downers grove North track and field sectional. It is not often a coach comes away from a sectional meet with only one qualifier and feels good. That is such the case saturday morning for me. Victor Osinloye threw the discus 165'5" for the sectional crown and his second consecutive trip downstate. That is a great accomplishment for him. But the rest of the Spartan team performed at a high level as well. Jordan Nettles led the way with 3 new personal bests. He placed 5th in the 100m dash with the time of 11.06, just missing qualifying time. He ran a 22.58 in the 200 for 6th place and he anchored the 4 x 100 to their best time all season, 43.49. The next Spartan to smash his personal best was Justin Suits. Justin cut 11.5 seconds off of his best 3200m time and ran a 9:49.5. Ian Irvine was not to be outdone. Ian cut 6 seconds off of his 1600 meter time to run a 4:30. Xavier Jones competed in the triple jump, long jump and acted as a fillin in the 4 x 100. Xavier made the finals in both jumps and eclipsed his own personal record in the triple jump by 6 inches, jumping 43'7". Dan Ford cut 1 full second off of his best mile time and ran a 4:38.14. Dan was also part of our all-underclassmen 4 x 800 that ran a respectable 8:34. The team consisted of Dan (2:02), Jacoby Jones (fr) 2:07, Carlos Ibanez (jr.) 2:09 and Elvis Quiroz(so) 2:15. Dave Andrews kept the pr's going for the distance squad with a 2:03 in the 800m, a 2.5 second pr. He was followed by Zeke Cabanas who ran a 2:04.5, also a 2 second pr. Not to be outdone was sophomore pole vaulter Greg Guillen. Greg hit a 4" pr with a vault of 11'1". Greg Davis also had his own record breaking night with a 3 inch pr in the high, clearing 5'7". ANd rounding off our night of pr's was Capri Stewart. Capri drop his 400 meter dash time down to 51.21, finishing 3rd in the sectional as well as being part of the 4 x 100m relay. The other member of the 4 x 100 was joe Otchere. The relay was made up of 2 sophomores and 2 juniors. Things are looking bright in the Spartans future.
