The Spartans competed at Lewis University on Friday at the Romeoville IHSA track sectional. The Spartans finished in 5th place with 58 points, rebounding from a last place finish last year. Leading the way for the Spartans with a sectional championship and a NEW school record in the discus was Kelvin Jones. His throw of 169' breaks Perez Ford's record of 164'3". Three other Spartans placed second in their respective events to qualify for state. Curshaun Pruitt finished 2nd in triple jump with a distance of 45'5". D'Lante Dawson placed 2nd in the 200m dash with a career best of 22.52. Finally D'Aaron Williams placed 2nd in the 100m dash with a season FAT PR of 10.86.
Mitch LaFond placed 3rd in the high jump with a height of 5'11". The 4 x100m team of Giorgio Terracciano, Miguel Ford, Williams and Dawson hit a season best 43.16, placing 4th. Marcus Tyler finished in 5th place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.13. Luis Loza finished in 5th place in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.98. The 4 x 200m of Terracciano, Tyler, Ford and Chris Edmondson, set a season PR of 1:31.61. Marcos Povilaitis placed 5th in the 300 IH with a new career PR of 41.75.Chris Edmondson finished in 6th place in the 200m dash with a time of 23.04. Prosper Osinloye placed 4th in the shot put with a distance of 47'1". Also finishing with career PR's but not placing were: Justin Suits (3200m run) 10:22.40, James Boyd (3200m relay split) 2:13 and Ian Irvine (1600m) 4:38.12.
