School Record Falls as EPGXC Men take 8th

Sunday, September 29 2013 - Spartan Classic

Jacob Ludy ran splits of 5:15, 5:16, and 5:03 for a 15:34 three-mile and 13th place at the St. Joe-Ogden Spartan Classic on Saturday morning. That leadership led the EPGXC men to an 8th place finish and a 16:36 average time among their top five. Both Ludy’s 15:34 individual time and the team average 16:36 were school records (the old records being Ludy’s 15:57 at Detweiller in 2012 and the team average of 16:51 set by the same five guys at Detweiller earlier this year). All seven guys also placed in the top 100, bringing home seven individual trophies (in addition to their 8th place team trophy and the Frank Guyot Comeback Award for moving up from 19th in 2012 to 8th in 2013). Other lifetime PRs were set by our #3 Andy Layden, breaking the 17:00 threshold for the first time in 16:45 (and missing fastest freshman award by less than ten seconds). #5 Ryan Filkins also set a lifetime PR, dropping nine seconds to a 17:04, soon to join the sub-17 club. The other lifetime PR set was by #7 Adam Ludy, who shaved two second off his Detweiller time for a 17:42. Helping the Titans with their record 16:36-average was #2 Tyler DeMarb (16:41), and #4 Hunter Cobbley (16:57). Luke Barnard tied his lifetime PR of 17:38 in the first event of a double header (also joining Rosenberger and Mudd at the Danville marching band competition).
