Morrison and Rosenberger Place at Spartan Classic

Sunday, September 29 2013 - Spartan Classic

At precisely 9:00am, 300 girls from around Illinois (and Seeger, Indiana) crammed into one city block to start the 42nd annual Spartan Classic. The swift two-mile race was easily won by freshman phenom Anna Sophia Keller from St. Anthony’s but the EPGXC girls managed to put two in the top 100 to bring home two trophies. Maddie Morrison was the top Titan of the morning, keeping both miles under the 7-minute mark and finishing in the 10th fastest time EPG has ever ran on that course, making her the 5th fastest Titan of all-time. Vera Rosenberger snuck into the top-100 in 95th by running a 14:08, exactly one full minute faster than her previous best on the course. Other Titans also flashed the speed as Karly Miller, Autumn Kridner, and Sophie Steffen all worked to keep both their miles under 8:00. Rachael Ingalsbe battled numerous injuries courageously and missed getting her second mile under 8-minutes by only one second. Kathy Mudd started a long day (heading to a band competition in Danville from St. Joseph via El Paso) with a 16:03. The EPGXC women averaged 14:39 among their scorers, with a pack time of 2:01, placing 17th of 19 teams and amassing 459 points.
