Sycamores continue strong indoor season at Hoosier Hills

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana State shined in its final away meet before the indoor conference championships, taking three event titles Friday at Indiana's Hoosier Hills inside Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.
 
Cale Kilian took home an event win for the second straight weekend, this time in the 3000m. He was joined atop the podium by fellow distance runner Jocelyn Quiles in the mile and Luigi Rivas in the 60m hurdles.
 
Indiana State recorded 26 top-three finishes at the meet, with Cameron Stevens (200m, 4x400m relay), Wyatt Wyman (mile, 4x400m relay) and Kamille Gaskin-Griffith (60m hurdles, long jump) each earning top-three finishes in multiple events.

Sprints/Hurdles
Indiana State's hurdlers took center stage Friday, going 1-2-3 in the men's 60m. Luigi Rivas continued his dominant debut season by taking the event title in 8.01 seconds. Quincy Armstrong (8.13) and Daryl Black (8.14) rounded out the Sycamore trio atop the podium in second and third, respectively. Kamille Gaskin-Griffith earned a podium finish on the women's side, placing third with a time of 9.23.
 
With JaVaughn Moore and Shomari Rogers-Walton competing at New Mexico this weekend, it was Noah Malone and Jarel Shaw leading the charge for the Trees in the men's 60m. Malone crossed the finish line in second at 6.85 seconds, while Shaw placed third at 6.87.
 
Reynei Wallace and Iyanla Hunter continued their strong seasons by placing second and third, respectively, in the 200m. Wallace ran a 25.17-second race, while Hunter finished in 25.28. Hunter also recorded a top-five finish in the 60m, placing fifth at 7.87 seconds. On the men's side, Cameron Stevens led the way with a second-place finish at 22.11, followed by Shaw in third with a time of 22.19.
 
Sierra Long found herself on the podium in the 400m with a third-place finish, crossing the line in 59.74 seconds. Ben Shepard placed fourth in the unseeded portion of the men's 400m at 50.64, while Mitchell Cline was fifth in the seeded event at 50.43.
 
Indiana State had two teams in the men's 4x400m relay, with both earning top-five finishes. Stevens, Shepard, Cline and Tahj Johnson placed third (3:18.19), while Napoleon HernandezWyatt WymanQuincy Armstrong and Caine Wilson finished fourth (3:22.18).
 
Mid/Distance
Two of Indiana State's three event wins at the Hoosier Hills came in the distance events. The Sycamores earned at least one top-three finish in all six mid-distance and distance events that they competed in Friday.
 
Jocelyn Quiles led the way in the women's mile, pacing the field with a 4:48.76 to win the event. Wyatt Wyman finished second in the men's event, crossing the line in 4:10.64. Cale Kilian earned the Sycamores' other distance win, taking the 3000m title with a time of 8:48.76. Maggie Falater was the top women's competitor in the event, coming in third with a time of 10:45.72.
 
Indiana State earned a pair of top-three finishes in the 800m events, as Devon Zeck placed second on the women's side (2:25.34) and Jocqael Thorpe finished third on the men's side (1:54.67).
 
Jumps/Pole Vault
Multiple Sycamore field athletes had their best performance of the season Friday, with five jumpers and pole vaulters earning podium finishes. Eva Grace Quinlan (1.71m/5-07.25) and Nathan Kiger (2.05m/6-08.75) had the top performances among the Sycamore jumpers, with each placing second in their respective high jump events.
 
Callan Whitehouse cleared 4.95m (16-01.25) to take third in the men's pole vault. On the women's side, Maddie Welsh cleared a season-best 3.71m (12-00.50) in the to take fourth.
 
Gaskin-Griffith (long jump, 5.46m/17-11.00) and Brittney Walker (triple jump, 11.24m/36-10.50) each placed third in their respective events. Dearis Herron led the Sycamores in both the long jump and triple jump, placing sixth (6.92m/22-08.50) and fourth (13.85m/45-05.25) in the two events.
 
Throws
Brittnee James and Jayla Bynum each earned a pair of top-10 finishes, with James placing second in the weight throw (19.72m/64-08.50) and fifth in the shot put (14.54m/47-08.50) and Bynum placing sixth in the shot put (14.25m/46-09.00) and 10th in the weight throw (15.40m/50-06.25).
 
Wyatt Puff had the high mark for the men's throwers with a second-place finish in the shot put at 17.87m (58-07.50). Brett Norton also had a top-three finish in the event, coming in third at 17.49m (57-04.75). In the weight throw, it was Ryan Golliher leading the way for the Trees with a fourth-place finish (18.38m/60-03.75), with Norton coming in fifth (18.21m/59-09.00).
 
In Albuquerque
Shomari Rogers-Walton and Frankie Young III took part in the long jump at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, with Young III placing 12th (6.97m/22-10.50) and Rogers-Walton finishing 21st (6.83m/22-05.00).
