Moore breaks 60m school record, Sycamores win two events at PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In its first away meet since early December, Indiana State track and field put together 15 top-five finishes Saturday at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
 
Going up against the toughest competition ISU has faced this season, the Sycamores came out with two wins and a pair of facility records. Ja'Vaughn Moore also broke the school record in the 60m, which had stood for nearly 50 years.
 
Moore (60m) and Shomari-Rogers Walton (long jump) were the event winners for the Sycamores, with both also posting a top-three finish in one other event. Moore placed third in the 200m, while Rogers-Walton finished third in the triple jump. Ryann Porter had the top finish of the day for the Sycamore women with a second-place result in the triple jump.
 
In addition, multiple Sycamores set marks that rank among the top 10 in program history, with Moore (60m, 200m), Rogers-Walton (long jump) and Porter (triple jump) all earning spots among the top five in program history in their respective events.

Top-Five Finishes

 
Sprints/Hurdles
JaVaughn Moore's performance in both the 60m and 200m stole the spotlight for the Sycamores Saturday. The senior sprinter ran a 6.72 in the 60m prelim to advance to the final, where he clocked a school-record 6.68. Moore became the first person in ISU history to run a sub-6.70 time in the 60m and broke Reggie Morton's school record that had stood since 1973. In addition, Moore's time in the 60m set a new facility record for the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville.
 
Moore continued his assault on the school record books in the 200m, finishing the event in third place with a time of 21.37. The mark shattered his previous personal best was the second-fastest time in ISU history in the event.
 
Joining Moore in the 60m finals was Noah Malone, who made his season debut Saturday with a 6.91 in the 60m prelims. Jarel Shaw joined Moore in the 200m field, placing 10th at 22.17.
 
Reynei Wallace and Iyanla Hunter each posted season-best times in the women's 200m while placing 10th and 12th, respectively. Wallace ran a time of 25.28, while Hunter set an indoor-best time of 25.32 in the event.
 
Cameron Stevens and Tahj Johnson posted top-10 times in the 400m, with Stevens finishing seventh at 49.15 and Johnson placing eighth at 49.20. Both Stevens and Johnson beat the previous facility record, which was 49.73.
 
Stevens and Johnson teamed up with Ben Shepard and Mitchell Cline to finish fifth in the 4x400 relay at 3:19.49. ISU had the eighth-fastest time after the first 200 meters, but got faster as the race went on to climb its way into a top-five finish. ISU's women's 4x400 team, which consisted of Sierra Long, Hunter, Wallace and Riley Tuerff, posted a season-best time of 3:55.70 to finish ninth in the event.
 
In his first meet of the season, Luigi Rivas threw down the top mark by an ISU hurdler this season with a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles at 7.92. Rivas was joined in the event finals by Daryl Black, who finished eighth at 8.27. Quincy Armstrong just missed out on the event finals after clocking a time of 8.28 in the prelims. Ryann Porter and Tuerff each clocked sub-9.00 times in the women's 60m hurdles at 8.91 and 8.99, respectively.
 
Mid/Distance
A trio of Sycamores put together top-10 times in the mid and distance events, led by Wyatt Wyman's third-place finish in the 800m. Wyman ran a time of 1:52.24, breaking the previous facility record of 1:53.09 in the process.
 
Cale Kilian led the Sycamore distance runners with a sixth-place finish in the mile at 4:11.04. On the women's side, Jocelyn Quiles ran a 4:54.88 time in the mile to finish seventh.
 
Five different Sycamores set season-best times in the 3000m, with Ethan Breen (8:30.76) and Jackson Krieg (8:38.03) racing their best times of the year on the men's side and Erica Barker (10:21.57), Chloe Loftus (10:52.01) and Maggie Falater (10:52.66) recording season-bests on the women's side.
 
Jumps/Pole Vault
Shomari Rogers-Walton and Frankie Young III continued their dominant seasons in the jumps events, combining for three top-three finishes between the two. Rogers-Walton won the long jump (7.55m/24-09.25)and finished third in the triple jump (14.50m/47-07.00), while Young III finished third in the long jump (7.21m/23-08.00). Bryan Keubeng also recorded a top-10 finish in the long jump (6.95m/22-09.75, eighth), with all three Sycamores breaking the previous facility record.
On the women's side, Ryann Porter earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with the second-best mark in school history of 12.70m (41-08.00). Porter was one of two Sycamores to earn a top-10 finish in the event, with Dominique Wood placing 10th (11.04m/36-02.75).
 
Indiana State continued to show its strength in the high jump with a trio of top-10 finishes. Lawrence Mitchell led the Sycamores and placed fourth after clearing 2.05m (6-08.75), while Kevin Krutsch placed fifth after clearing the same height, but falling in a jump-off. Nathan Kiger placed 10th, clearing 1.95m (6-04.75).
 
Selene Weaver continued her strong season in the pole vault with another top-five finish, placing fifth in the seeded portion of the event after clearing a career-best 3.96m (12-11.75). Maddie Welsh placed fifth in the unseeded portion of the event after clearing 3.51m (11-06.25).
 
Callan Whitehouse and William Staggs both earned top-10 finishes in the men's pole vault, with Whitehouse placing sixth after clearing 4.96m (16-03.25) and Staggs placing ninth after clearing 4.81m (15-09.25).
 
Throws
Indiana State throwers combined for four top-10 finishes Saturday, with Brittnee James accounting for two of those. James placed fifth in the weight throw (18.38m/60-03.75) and sixth in the shot put (14.03m/46-00.50).
 
Brett Norton and Ryan Golliher each earned top-10 marks on the men's side, with Norton placing ninth in the shot put (17.28m/56-08.50) and Golliher finishing 10th in the weight throw (17.81m/58-05.25).
