Moore, Porter set top marks at Meyo Invitational
Sunday, February 13 2022 - Notre Dame Meyo InvitationalSOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana State's school record in the men's 60m had been untouched since 1973 prior to last week. This time, it lasted all of seven days.
JaVaughn Moore broke his own record in the 60m at the Meyo Invitational Saturday afternoon, running a 6.65 in the event finals.
Moore was one of three event winners for the Sycamores over the course of the two-day meet, joined by Cale Kilian in the mile (4:06.90) and Ryann Porter in the triple jump (12.75m/41-10.00). Porter's mark was the second-best in school history, trailing only Indiana State Athletics Hall of Fame member Lauren Martin, while Kilian's time in the mile also ranked inside the top 10 in school history.
Indiana State recorded 22 top-10 finishes on the weekend, including both men's relay teams. Moore earned top-five finishes in two events (60m and 200m), while Wyatt Wyman and Tahj Johnson earned top-10 finishes in their respective events (Wyman - 800m, Johnson - 400m) and as part of the 4x400m relay team.

Sprints/Hurdles
JaVaughn Moore made a major statement on the track for the second straight weekend. Moore broke his own school record in the 60m, crossing the line in 6.65 seconds in the final. He won the prelim (6.73), semifinal (6.74) and final (6.65) in the event. Moore also earned a top-three finish in the 200m, placing third after finishing in 21.42 seconds.
Jarel Shaw also joined Moore in advancing out of the prelims and narrowly missed advancing to the finals after finishing 11th in the semifinal (6.97).
Indiana State had a pair of athletes narrowly miss out on advancing in the women's 60m, as Reynei Wallace (7.90) and Daija Springer (7.97) placed 27th and 31st, respectively. The Trees got a season-best time in the women's 400 from Iyanla Hunter (22nd, 57.53) while Sierra Long also ran a sub-60 second time in the event.
Tajh Johnson paced the Sycamores in the men's 400m, placing seventh with a season-best time of 48.22. Cameron Stevens also took part in the event, running a time of 49.95.
Stevens and Johnson teamed up with Ben Shepard and Mitchell Cline to finish sixth in the 4x400 relay at 3:17.81, an improvement of nearly two seconds from last week's meet at Louisville. ISU's women's 4x400 team, which consisted of Long, Hunter, Wallace and Riley Tuerff, placed 13th with a time of 3:59.67.
Luigi Rivas continued his strong start to his Sycamore career with a second consecutive top-10 finish in the 60m hurdles. Rivas had the top time in the prelims, clocking a time of 8.06, before finishing eighth in the finals at 8.57. Daryl Black (11th, 8.39) and Bryce Byrdsong (19th, 8.68) also earned top-20 finishes on the men's side, while Ryann Porter (8.87 prelim) and Tuerff (9.11 prelim/9.00 semi)each advanced past the prelims on the women's side.
Mid/Distance
The Sycamores put together a strong showing in the mid and distance events, highlighted by Cale Kilian taking home the win in the men's mile. Kilian crossed the finish line in 4:06.90, which set a new personal record and also ranked inside the top 10 in school history.
Jocelyn Quiles also had a top-five finish, placing fourth in the women's 3000m with a time of 9:41.27, which was faster than her time that won the Missouri Valley Championship last year and also ranked inside the top 10 in program history.
Wyatt Wyman continued his impressive season with another top-10 in the 800m (ninth, 1:50.37), the third-best time in the event in program history. Morgan Dyer ran her best mile of the season at 5:10.83, while Ethan Breen (4:12.56) and Jason Dworak (4:14.88) also ran season-best times in the mile for the Trees.
In the 5000m, Logan Pietzrak had the top time on the men's side at 14:49.39, while Erica Barker completed the event in 17:55.65 as the only Sycamore competing on the women's side.
Indiana State took part in the distance medley relay for the first time this season Friday evening, with Cael Light, Shepard, Jocqael Thorpe and Dworak teaming up to earn a third-place finish, completing the event in 10:12.11.
Jumps/Pole Vault
Ryann Porter continued to showcase her talents as the top triple jumper in the Valley Saturday, winning the event with an indoor-best mark of 12.75m (41-10.00). In addition to it being her indoor best, Porter's jump is also the second-best indoor triple jump in Indiana State history. Dominique Wood also had a season-best jump of 11.31m (37-01.25) in the event.
Shomari Rogers-Walton and Frankie Young III continued their dominant seasons in the long jump, with both athletes earning top-10 finishes. Rogers-Walton placed fourth with a jump of 7.50m (24-07.25), while Young III finished sixth at 7.24m (23-09.00). Wood was the lone Sycamore to compete in the event on the women's side, placing 18th at 5.29m (17-04.25).
Kevin Krutsch led the Sycamore high jumpers with a second-place finish after clearing 2.09m (6-10.25), which was a season-best mark. Nathan Kiger also earned a top-10 finish, placing seventh after clearing 1.99m (6-06.25). On the women's side, Kelsey Bowlds placed ninth after clearing 1.59m (5-02.50).
Selene Weaver cleared the 3.9-meter mark for the second straight weekend in the pole vault, finishing seventh after clearing 3.93m (12-10.75). Maddie Welsh and Landis Brandon both cleared 3.48m (11-05.00) and finished 12th and 15th, respectively. On the men's side, William Staggs earned yet another top-10 finish on the season, placing ninth after clearing 4.60m (15-01.00). Callan Whitehouse cleared 4.45m (14-07.25) and finished 11th.
Throws
Brittnee James and Wyatt Puff each earned top-10 finishes among the Sycamore throwers, with James placing eighth in the women's weight throw (18.02m/59-01.50) and Puff finishing ninth in the men's shot put (17.55m/57-07.00).
Jayla Bynum also earned a top-15 finish the weight throw (16.98m/55-08.50), while James placed 15th in the shot put (14.02m/46-00.00) to lead the Sycamore women in the event.
Elias Foor and Brett Norton each earned top-15 marks in the men's weight throw, with Foor placing 14th at 17.52m (57-05.75) and Norton finishing 15th at 17.38m (57-00.25).
