MEET RESULTS from the Saxon Invitational
Saturday, April 11 2015 - Schaumburg High School Saxon Invite - Jaurice ThomasIts the first INVITATIONAL of the year and we ARE SETTING UP FOR A GREAT RUN THIS YEAR!!
I just see so much to be happy about from the Saxon invitational. Everyone took their opportunities and were excited about being a part of this team. The GREAT WEATHER really lined up for the field events. It was a crisp morning and the FIELD EVENT BEASTS were ready to JUMP THROW AND FLY. Nick Bounyavong was getting a great vertical in the high jump. He placed 4th in the frosh.soph high jump with a leap of 5'4" a bit under his PR this season. Desmond Lockett (freshman)and CJ Bradford (sophomore) were identical in the long jump, with 16'2" jumps. Jaurice Thomas had a run of the mill day in the field events, BUT MADE UP FOR IT IN the sprints. His long jump of 19'2 will improve and will get to a scoring distance soon!! Nick Kampsen (freshman) had a huge PR in the triple jump..... his 34'9" triple jump was good for a point at 6th place against TOUGH COMPETITION!
The man of the FIELD was definitely Larnell Brown (junior). His triple jump of 42'5" was tops in the HUGE field including Schaumburg, Hononegah, and Bloom township. This 4’ PR is a clear case of just riding the wave of being outdoors. Everything lined up for Larnell. He HIT IT in his first jumps and then let the good leaps ride! This is what professionals do.....JUMP IN, GET YOUR best and then GET OUT!! Move onto other events. He is positive, happy and working on being humble each day.
Did LATIGO have a good day? Well he sure did! He scored in the discus throw, 6th place, 1 point and a NEW PR 93’2”. But my question is, is there a day that Brandon Latigo isn’t having his best day? No one is more positive than LAtigoooooo. What a way to go about your business. BE AND STAY positive.
They’re going the distance, they are GOING FOR SPEED! The distance squad highlights begin and end with Jacob Harris. He anchored the 4x800 relay to a 6th place finish for a point. The time for our frosh.soph 4x800 team is 9:18. The team is made up of Owen Vajarsky, Owen Sirridge, Hector Rodriguez, and anchor Jacob Harris. And then doubled in the 1600m run and broke 5 minutes with a NEW PR of 4:59.44. He ran a great race and is ready to make some great strides in his sophomore year!
And on to the frosh.soph SPRINTS… the frosh.soph relays are looking GOOD! Lets start with the 4x100. They are running :46.85 with Desmond Lockett, Kyle Sy, Jerlon Teems and Julian Catuara. They were 5th place for 2 points! The 4x200 had a switch of one person….Jerious Jackson. The 4x200 team ripped up the track for a 2nd place finish 8 points and a time of 1:37.11. And finally the 4x400 made up of Zach Tollakson, Nick Bounyavong, Julian Catuara and Kyle Sy. Its 3 TIMES the 4x400 has scored in in the last meets. At this invite they were 5th place, 2 points and a time of 3:49.5 . Did you notice that? JULIAN Catuara was in all three relays. Kid is a huge part of this team. He steps up and lives the event he is in.
In his first season and first few attempts at the 110m high hurdles Joe McAllister qualified for the finals with a 19.42. He made a SINGLE ADJUSTMENT on his start for the 110s and PRed AGAIN IN THE FINALS with a 18.95, BUT he just missed out on scoring. I see BIG THINGS happening with our hurdle crew this year. HERES WHY! Larnell Brown is running a clean race in his 110m high hurdles. But what is really happening is the frosh.soph guys in the 300m inter hurdles. If you would have seen Ethan Schneider finish that race in the 300s. WOW! The stride over the hurdles was AWESOME! SO smooth and clean. And we got another sprinter ready to double in the 300m I. Hurdles, Joe McAllister. He was 5th in the 300s and 2 points!! The outdoor season is going to be great for this frosh.soph team!
On the varsity side it was the 4x100 team that was working off the rust. We are missing a link or 2 in this relay but the opportunity is there and our 4 guys sprinters are getting it done! The 4x100 crew is Dominique Woods, Larnell Brown, Jaurice Thomas, and Isreal Carpenter. It will move and shake a bit getting to the conference meet. But 44.6 for 4th place against great talent will KEEP US MOVING!!
In the 100m dash, varsity HAD A DAY to remember. Both Jaurice Thomas and Dominique Woods qualified into the finals, both had low 11. times and they were working for their places in the finals! Jaurice Thomas was the 100m dash champion at the Saxon invitational for the top 10 points. Dominique Woods ran out of juice for the finals BUT JAURICE brought the championship home for the STORM. Against who? Yep, Jaurice Thomas brought it home against the Bartlett Hawks best! #canyousaytheriverlyisREAL??
The 2 highlights for the 400m were Jomari Cruz who brought home a 55.3 for 5th place 2 points. STEPPING UP FOR THE TEAM! Isaiah Carpenter was a runnin a very smooth 53.1 for 3rd place and 6 points! He makes it look SO EASY out there in the 400m dash!
BUT we have to LIVE WHAT WE DO. If you cant love these competitions its going to be a hard road for you in April in May. WAKE UP and be ready for each day and each opportunity in TRACK AND FIELD!!
