SWSC Frosh/Soph Recap

Sunday, March 15 2015 - SWSC Indoor Frosh/Soph Conference

The frosh/soph conference meet was a chance for our younger guys to show their stuff.  Overall we had a great day of track and field.  We had 1 first place (Shuetz 3200), 1 second place (Trost 400) and 1 fourth place (Wilder 300).  The field events were just one group, the throwers.  AJ Villasenor threw nearly a 1 foot PR (28'.05").  That distance is nearly a foot further than sophomore Wilber Milhouse's PR from last year.  Wilber now is consistently in the mid 30s when he throws.  Mark Kirby also had a great series of throws.  The sprints were good as well.  Ted Trost's second place finish in the 400 was a great run (57.7).  For comparison Chris Jackson (class of 2014) ran one second slower than Ted did at SWSC this year when he was a sophomore.  Chris went on to run 50.xx for a relay split as a senior.  Maccauley Juskie as ran a great 400, he was very aggressive to start, and as the season goes on Mac will build that race endurance to finish the race strong.  In 300 Chris Wilder had a great run.  He ran 42.81, to compare that to a current athlete, Danny Kaz ran 47 last year in this same race.  Danny went on to run 24.2 for 200 and be in the mix for our varsity relays as a freshman.  Chris is in a great place to really put together some great 200s and 400s this season.  In the 55, both Sam and Kwaku had solid runs.  They both competed really well.  And in the distance races  Joe Schuetz had our only victory of the day in the 3200.  Joe ran a tactically very sound race.  He opened up a lead 200 meters in and never looked back.  His 5th 400 split slowed dramatically, but Joe battled back to drop the pace back down for the last 3 quarters.  Joe's time was only 8 seconds slower than his PR, but Joe missed a huge section on training with a broken wrist this winter.  In the 1600, Donovan and Iozzo ran great together, they pushed each other to big PRs.  Both breaking 5:34.  Today's 3200 champ Joe Schuetz ran 5:37 at this meet last year, and Joe will be a sub 5 miler this year.  So JD and Anthony are in great company with the times that they ran.  And in the 800 Gummy and Patrick both battled hard.  Patrick was able to run a PR while negative splitting the race.  He fought hard to finish 2nd in his heat, but just didn't have the turnover at the end.  And Gummy also ran a 1 second PR.  Overall it was a good meet.  For most of the frosh/soph guys this was their last indoor meet, and now you can take some time to build some based to run some fast times this outdoor season.
