Distance Crew Highlights- Proviso East
Invite March 24, 2012
Varsity 4x800
8:54.75
Rysiewicz- 2:06 Delaney: 2:21 Wooldridge: 2:10 Foster: 2:15
Richie got
us off to a great start, pushing the pace and getting after it on the 1st
leg, tying his season best split. Mike
struggled on the 2nd leg, battling some sickness, and we were out of
the race at that point as DW ran 2:10 and Dominic 2L15, pretty much solo. As a whole, we need to be able to push
ourselves in races regardless of the competition- if we are alone, if we are in a slow heat, or
a fast heat- No excuses. The great thing is these guys still have a
lot of room to improve as we transition to outdoors- We have the potential to run under 8:10 if
these guys keep working hard and put it together on the same day.
Fr/So 4x800
9:44.54
Oudin- 2:29 J.
Villanueva: 2:26 Richards: 2:28 Sanders: 2:30
These guys
competed tough, most of them getting out hard and giving it a shot… Still lack
the strength o finish it up in the last lap, as we looked like we were running
with a gorilla on our backs the last laps of each split… That being said, PR’s
for Richards and Sanders, and great racing experience for all of these
guys- HUGE POTENTIAL!

1600
Dan subbed in for a
sick teammate and ran one of the best races of his track career- 4:41.9 for a 4 seconds PR… He won his heat
going away, splitting 68-71-71-71. A
month from now, Dan will be going through the mile of his 3200’s this fast… Big
things to come.
Also a solid race for
Sean B., 5:22 running his usual patient, disciplined race. Be ready to start taking some risks out there
and testing yourself as we get to outdoor.

3200
Adam B. wrapped up a
FANTASTIC freshman indoor season- one of
the best in school history- running his first ever 3200- 11:09.1.
He ran strong, went out in 5:25, and competed tough when it started
hurting the last half mile. Adam has
been a model of consistency this season, and it doesn’t surprise me at all that
he is having such success after the solid winter of training he put in. Tanner also ran his first 3200 of his HS
career, running 11:49. Very solid effort
coming off a winter of injuries. We need
Tanner to be one of our top Fr/So runners this year, and get back to the
confidence he had at the close of the XC season

800
Thomas chipped a
little more time off of his season PR and ran a 2L19. Potential is there to be a sub 2:10 runner
this year, but it is going to take a more consistent work ethic in practice,
and continuing to take risks in races to give yourself a chance. Jessie V. came back for his 2nd
800 of the day, filling in for a teammate… He ran a solid 2:29, gaining more
valuable race experience. As mentioned
before, consistent training will be a key for a lot of our young guys, and also
upping our expectations for ourselves.
You’ve got the SPEED, but we need to get stronger- and that comes from the day in day out grind
of putting in miles and increasing your pace.
Take-away
from this weekend:
As we put a
ribbon on the indoor season and look to outdoors, I am incredibly optimistic
with where we are at as a distance crew.
Some have had stellar indoor seasons, and need to keep working hard and
consistently to keep improving. Others
need to looks themselves in the mirror and decide what they want to be- RUNNERS or RACERS. PARTICIPANTS or CONTRIBUTORS. Who will be the guys that step up this
outdoor season- who will take some
risks- both in training and in racing.
“Something inside of me just said 'Hey, wait a minute, I want to
beat him,' and I just took off.”
