This was the race of
the day at the meet- Top runners in the
state Michael Clevenger (Decatur McArthur) and Garrett Sweatt (Edwardsville)
battled up front to run 4:16 and 4:17.
It was, however, a
tough day for PN’s Dan Wooldridge and Michael Delaney. Delaney got out slow, ran too conservative,
and finished near the back of his heat in 5:00.
Dan Wooldridge was in the fast heat, and just didn’t have his best
day- got out slow and faded to a 4:52.

Another tough race
for PN runners- Richie ran an average
race, but made a tactical mistake early and got caught in the back pack and was
out of the race. He closed well on the
last lap, but it was too late.
Definitely learned a good lesson in race tactics, and the importance of
being up near the front and “in the race”…
Foster was doubling
back from the 4x8, and battling some sickness.
He was up and in the mix until he tripped on the railing entering the
curve during the middle of the race, and never recovered, jogging it in the
last few laps.

Take-away
from this weekend:
We, as a
distance crew, need to do some soul-searching and find it within us to take
more chances in races and be willing to risk failure. Too many are CONTENT WITH MEDIOCRITY. We need more guys willing to practice hard, race
hard and make no excuses- To put
themselves in position to RACE and COMPETE, regardless of how they feel.
“If you want to win a race, you have to go a
little berserk!”
