Dog Days

Saturday, July 6 2013 - Dog Days 5k

There was a group of EPGXC runners that braved the hot and humid conditions this past Saturday to run in the Dog Days 5k at Lake Bloomington at 6pm. Despite the conditions there were some very good performances on the perhaps long "5k" course. It was a battle between Coach Heffron and Senior Jacob Ludy for 2.25 miles until Heffron showed his superior fitness and pulled away to place 3rd in a respectable 17:21. Ludy faded and was passed by two runners on the last stretch but held on for 6th in 17:35. Freshman Andy Layden was the next EPGXC runner to cross the line in 9th place with a very impressive 18:07. Sophomore Hunter Cobbley was next with a 19:29 17th place finish. Freshman Adam Ludy just nipped Sophomore Ryan Filkins at the finish line for 20th and 21st place finishes with times of 19:57 and 19:59 respectively. State 1A 1600 meter champion and EPGXC alumn Julie James finished in 23rd place with a time of 20:13. Shelby Heffron was the final EPGXC runner to cross the line as he finished in 43rd place with a 22:33. It was a very successful day as the Ludy brothers, Andy, and Julie all came away with age group awards and Coach Heffron came away with the masters champion award. The EPGXC boys totaled 73 points (6,9,17,20,21,(43)). It is looking pretty good for the EPGXC boys going into the middle of their summer training.
