The season is off and running (literally), as in years past we started our season with a low key dual meet at Oswego East. It was a night that saw some great starting points to indicate the right direction that the team is heading. Lots of athletes had a chance to compete for the Wildcats for the first time, and many more got to start their season with a lifetime best.
The sprint crew got us rolling, lots of guys took section victories and even more ran lifetime bests. Scott Freishlag took the victory in the fast heat, followed closely by Will Dotson who was clocked with the same time, both PRs. Freshman Torrance Freeman won the second heat, with a time that equaled what Scott had run, and then in the next heat Alex Haberkamp as ran the same 6.8 as his 3 other teammates. 3 of the top 4 times were from underclassmen on the night. Other PRs in the 55 were from Danny Haberkamp, Christian Crowder, Kedan Strickland, Gavin Schnowske, Saaransh Amin, and Bryan Underwood. James Kulekowskis also added a PR split in the 4x400 to end his night.
The distance crew took the first two places in the 1600 with Harlan Matson outkicking Tyler Schick. Adrian Castillo, and Ubaldo Rodriguez added lifetime PRs. Wyatt Fullam ran 8:09 in our mile time trial to start the season, last night in his first official race he ran 6:16! The 4x800 of Harlan Matson, Tyler Schick, Arnold Arce, and Luke Adair did also go 4 for 4 on lifetime relay split bests.
The throws crew was led by Dallas Bingham who put the shot to a lifetime best! The young guys in the throws crew had a chance to get used to competition and are ready for some big throws this season.
Next up for the Wildcats is next Thursday at Lyons Township.
