RUNNERS OF THE WEEK:
Kevin Vanderkolk, So., Belmont (Brentwood, TN) led the Bruins to a team title finish in the Belmont Opener over regionally ranked #12 Vanderbilt and #6 Lipscomb. Vanderkolk took home the individual champion title in the Men’s 5k with a time of 15:17.72, now leading the Missouri Valley in the Men’s 5K. Belmont also took home the top five spots of the race with all runners finishing in the top 20 of a field of 44. Conference team Murray State was also in competition in the field.
Kaitlyn Vanderkolk, So., Belmont (Brentwood, TN) led the women to a second-place team finish in the Women’s 5K at the Belmont Opener. Vanderkolk ran a time of 18:16.39 to earn third place in a field of 57 runners. Vanderkolk leads the Missouri Valley in the Women’s 5K followed by two teammates. Belmont faced regionally ranked #6 Vanderbilt and #7 Lipscomb, as Vanderkolk bested five Vanderbilt runners among top 15 finishers of the race. Belmont finished with top seven runners in the top 25 of the field. Conference team Murray State was also in competition in the field.
Honorable Mentions:
Jackson Krieg, Sr., Indiana State (Princeton, IN) took home the individual title at the season-opening EIU Walt Crawford Open, helping lead the Sycamore men to the team title in the process. His 8k time of 25:12.2 shattered his previous PR by 43 seconds. He battled regionally ranked #7 EIU helping lead the Sycamores to their first first-place finish as a team, men or women, since the 2014 MVC Championships.
Rachel Anderson, Jr., Southern Illinois (New Philadelphia, Ohio) took first the Redhawks Cross Country Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri. Anderson clocked a 4K time of 13:50.4 to best a field that included participants from eight different schools and a total of 70 runners.
