The Knight Invite at Lincoln Way Central had a bunch of great performances. Here are a few of the highlights.
In the field events, triple jump was the best event of the day. Drew Slager smashed the school record in the triple jump. His first jump was just over 40 feet and then on his second jump he jumped 41'6. For someone who has only done the event twice, he is certainly trending in the right direction. Freshman, Micah Cox made it known that he will be force in the triple jump for years to come, as he jumped 38'3.5. Triple jump has never been a strong event for the Phoenix, but this year we should have three (Manny Molina as well) 40 foot plus jumpers.
Jamir Hunt had a great day in the sprints. He finished 2nd in the 55, running the second fastest time in school history. He followed that up with a strong leg in the 4x200, and then pulled a tough lane (1) in the 200 and had to expend a little too much energy to stay on his feet in trainers, but still managed to finish 2nd.
Kyle Graff smashed the school record in the 55 hurdles. He now holds 4 school records (55 hurdles, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, diving). Kyle also showed off some good wheels in the open 200. Those outdoor school records should certainly be lowered this year, with a potential trip down state in the cards.
Demetri Panici set another school record in the 1,600. He ran a smart tactical race. Every 400 was faster than the previous. He closed out his race in 62. In a strong paced race, I think Demetri should be primed for a very impressive run. Mark Harris and Matt Jung both ran very strong and consistent races in the 3,200. Mark ran within 3 seconds of his all-time PR, and Matt broke 11 minutes for his first ever 3,200 with splits of 5:21, 5:29.
