Jacksonville HS Invite at Illinois College
Saturday, March 7 2015The Pleasant Plains Girl's Track & Field team competed last Saturday, March 7th at the Jacksonville High School Indoor Invitational placing 3rd among 27 competing teams.

The scoring began for Plains with the first event, the 4x200 Relay. The relay team of Lauryn Leonard, Stephanie Race, Claire Watson, and Hope Tewes placed 3rd overall with a time of 1:55.92.
Next came the 4x800 Relay of Kaeli Olson, Carley Hamilton, Lauren Feagans and Ali Pankey. This relay finished 7th overall and posted a time of 11:46.31.
Amber Clouser, participating in the 60 Meter Hurdles, posted the fastest time in the prelims with a 9.83. In the 60 M Hurdle finals Clouser ran a time of 9.96, placing 3rd in the event.
In the 60 Meter Dash, sophomore Lauryn Leonard posted a prelim time of 8.56, making the finals and finishing 7th overall with a finals time of 8.61.
In the 800 Meter Run, junior Ali Pankey, a State qualifier in this event from the 2014 season, placed 4th overall in an event that posted extremely fast times for an early season meet and featured 41 contestants. Ali finished in a time of 2:35.50.
Plains scored double points in the next event, the 200 Meter Dash. Junior Hope Tewes and Lauryn Leonard finished in the 3rd and 5th places, posting times of 28.65 and 29.09 respectively.
In the 400 Meter Dash sophomore Lauren Feagans looked strong, starting out right where she left off after last season's strong performances, posting a 3rd place finish in the event with a time of 1:07.55.
In the final running event of the meet, the Plains 4x400 Relay team of Hope Tewes, freshman Baylee Vaughn, Lauren Feagans and Ali Pankey ran a time of 4:41.82, good enough to earn the relay a 5th place finish.
In the field events, Plains scored well. In the Long Jump Amber Clouser recorded a leap of 15'5.5" which was good enough to earn her 4th place overall. Lauryn Leonard finished with a jump of 14'7.5" which placed her 8th overall.
The High Jump proved to be one of the best field events of the day for Plains, doubling points in the event. Junior Hope Tewes won the event with a jump of 5'4", just missing on her attempts at 5'6". Junior Ali Pankey equalled her 2014 season PR by jumping 5'0" in the first meet of the year and placing 4th overall.
A good start to the 2015 track season with a strong performance against some solid girls teams from across Central Illinois. The girls compete next at Eastern IL University, Saturday, March 14th in the Charleston High School Invitational.
