BIRMINGHAM – The Loyola Wolf Pack track and field teams competed in the two-day Samford Invite Friday and Saturday, and Walter Ramsey and Christian Hanson each set new school records with their efforts.
For the second straight meet, Walter Ramsey set a new school record, this time in the 5,000-meter run. His time of 15:28.65 broke his own record set in 2019 by one second, and Ramsey finished ninth overall in the race of 20 runners. After Hayden Ricca set a new school record in the one mile run two weeks ago, Christian Hanson is the new school record holder with a time of 4:25.86 Saturday. Hanson and Ricca finished seven and eighth in the race, respectively.
Battling against NCAA schools, Loyola came close to setting multiple school records as well.
On Friday, seven Loyola athletes had events, and the day was highlighted by Cerena Mcbride eighth-place finish in the women's high jump. Making up of mostly NCAA Division I competitors, Mcbirde recorded a 1.55-meter jump while competing against 18 others.
