Seven wins, seven program top-10 marks highlight Billy Hayes Invitational for Sycamores

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana State track and field turned in a strong showing in its final meet before the MVC Championships, racking up 23 top-three finishes Friday at the Billy Hayes Invitational.
Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions and a weather delay of nearly one hour midway through the meet, the Sycamores still won seven events and set seven top-10 marks in program history.
Landis Brandon, Cale Kilian, Jocelyn Quiles, William Staggs, Zoe Sullivan and Selene Weaver all set individual top-10 marks, while the men's 4x100m relay team of Jarel Shaw, JaVaughn Moore, Tahj Johnson and Noah Malone ran just the second sub-40 second time in program history in the event.

Sprints/Hurdles
Three of Indiana State's seven event wins Friday came from the sprints group, including a sweep of the women's 100 and 200 titles.
Mirlege Castor took top spot in the women's 100m at 12.17, narrowly edging out the win in a photo finish. Daija Springer ran a career-best time of 12.23 in the prelims and ran 12.26 in the finals to place third. In the 200m, Reynei Wallace ran a personal-best 24.40 to place first.
On the men's side, Jarel Shaw placed third in the 100m with a time of 10.60. Noah Malone ran a wind-aided (+3.7) time of 10.34 but did not race in the final. Cameron Stevens ran a time of 22.01 in the 200m, finishing sixth as the only Sycamore in the event, while Ben Shepard ran a season-best time of 49.78 in the 400m to place fifth.
Indiana State's hurdlers earned top-three finishes in three of the four events, highlighted by Zoe Sullivan running a wind-legal 13.88 in the 100m hurdles. Sullivan's time tied for the sixth-fastest in program history, and she was joined in the top-three Friday by Ryann Porter (14.39). The Sycamores also got a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles from Ayana Parchman, who ran a time of 1:05.48. On the men's side, Daryl Black finished second in the 110m hurdles in 14.69.
The Sycamores only ran one relay Friday, but they made it count. On a wet track, Shaw, JaVaughn Moore, Tahj Johnson and Malone ran a season-best time of 39.99 to place first. The mark was the second-best in school history and was also the first 4x100 time under 40 seconds in the MVC this season.
Mid/Distance
Indiana State had a pair of top-10 marks in program history set by the distance crew Friday night, as Jocelyn Quiles and Cale Kilian both had strong races in the 1500m.
Kilian ran the second-best men's 1500m in program history at 3:44.02, while Quiles ran the third-fastest women's 1500m time in school history at 4:23.64. Devon Zeck also ran a season-best time of 4:52.29 on the women's side, while Jackson Krieg ran a personal-best time of 3:52.62 on the men's side.
In the men's 800m, Napoleon Hernandez took home the top spot in 1:54.20, with fellow Sycamore Jocqael Thorpe placing third in 1:55.89.
Jumps/Pole Vault
The women's pole vault was the highlight of the day for the Sycamore jumps group, as a trio of top-10 marks in program history were set in the event. On the men's side, William Staggs cleared an outdoor season-best 5.14m (16-10.25) to move into fifth all-time in school history. Selene Weaver became the first Sycamore to clear four meters on the women's side since 2015, moving to fourth in school history with a top mark of 4.08m (13-04.50). Landis Brandon cleared a personal-best 3.98m (13-00.75) to move into sixth all-time.
Ryann Porter continued her strong season in the women's triple jump with another first-place finish Friday. Porter had a top mark of 12.32m (45-05.00), while teammate Dominique Wood finished second at 11.87m (38-11.50).
The Sycamores also got a first-place finish Friday in the men's high jump from Lawrence Mitchell, who cleared 2.07m (6-09.50). Indiana State had three of the top four in the event, with Nathan Kiger (2.04m/6-08.25) placing third and Kevin Krutsch (2.00m/6-06.75) finishing fourth.
Indiana State had podium finishes in both long jump events, with Bryan Keubeng (7.06m/23-02.00) placing second on the men's side and Claire Pittman (5.79m/19-00.00) placing second on the women's side. Pittman's mark was also a personal record. Brittney Walker (5.58m/18-03.75) and Frankie Young III (6.94m/22-09.25) also earned top-five finishes.
ISU also had a pair of top-five finishes in the women's high jump, as Eva Grace Quinlan and Kelsey Bowlds both cleared 1.64m (5-04.50).
Throws
Wyatt Puff had another big day to lead the Sycamore throwers, placing first in the discus (52.26m/171-05) and second in the shot put (17.28m/56-08.50). The Sycamores also got a second-place finish in the women's shot put from Jayla Bynum (14.43m/47-04.25).
Hannah Redlin also placed in the top five in both events she competed in, finishing third in the discus (44.22m/145-01) and fifth in the shot put (13.29m/43-07.25).
The Trees had one additional top-five finish from the throws group, which came from Ryan Golliher in the hammer throw (52.37m/171-10).

All eyes turn to next week's Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, slated for May 13-15 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Indiana State was been tabbed the favorite on the men's and women's side in Thursday's MVC Pre-Championship Poll voted on by the conference's head coaches.
