Indiana State Men 5th, Women 6th at John McNichols Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – On a sunny and humid day at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, the Indiana State men's cross country team placed fifth in the John McNichols Invitational while the women took sixth among 13 additional squads.
As a team, the Indiana State men tallied 143 points to defeat DePauw (171), Lansing CC (223), Maryville (243), Madonna (282), Rose-Hulman (300), Evansville (300) and Vincennes (335). ISU was defeated by Purdue (36), Indiana (55), Eastern Illinois (55) and Huntington (126). The women totaled 169 points and overtook Indiana Wesleyan (179), DePauw (244), Lansing CC (276), Madonna (288), Evansville (294), Rose-Hulman (346), Vincennes (378) and Maryville (390) while falling to Purdue (24), Indiana (49), Ball State (87), Eastern Illinois (116) and Western Michigan (152).
Senior Cale Kilian once again led the way for the Sycamore men, leading the ISU pack by placing 35th with an 8K time of 26:23.2. Following Kilian in 39th was Jackson Krieg who clocked a time of 26:28.0 while Ethan Breen pushed his way to the top of the Indiana State finishers, taking 42nd at 26:36.9.
Also scoring for the Blue & White on the men's side was Logan Pietzrak in 45th, crossing the line at 26:42.5. Rounding out the scoring was true freshman Layton Hall, racing to a time of 26:44.8.
On the women's side, veteran Jocelyn Quiles was the leader with a time of 18:30.5, good for 18th overall in the 5K competition. Similar to the Evansville Opener, Sydney Partyka was the second runner for the Trees, running across the line in 28th with a final time of 19:10.4.
Following Partyka was Erica Barker. The freshman took 41st with a time of 19:37.6 and was followed by Maggie Falater in 51st at 20:02.2. The final scorer for the Sycamore women was Devon Zeck who finished 58th, recording a time of 20:09.1.
Both Indiana State cross country teams will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 1 when they travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame.
